Hoof Armor application in the Cold and Wet

INTS FOR APPLYING IN COLD WEATHER

OK - its wet and cold and you want to put some Hoof Armor on.
Aaaaargh!!! you say...!!

Hoof Armor needs a dry hoof.

Its important to firstly towel dry and scrub vigorously to remove any traces of dirt. scrub scrub scrub with a wire brush. They will be on special at the hardware stores coz there isnt any BBQ's at this time of year right???

* Spirit based wipes to assist in cleaning the whole area and drawing additional moisture

* Any dry area for your horse to stand is needed - there is an article i wrote about areas you can provide for application.
In there, I wrote about carpet, going in to your float, a bed of shavings will draw moisture out of the hoof and a few other ideas... go revisit that for more suggestions

The Cartridge of Hoof Armor product works better if its warm. If you havent got it in your applicator gun you could put it in your pocket, under your armpit - using your body to warm it up.

If the cartridge is already in the gun, a good idea would be to grab an insulated container - a 'chilly bin' is what we call it here in New Zealand! In the bottom place a hot water bottle filled with hot tap water. Wrap it in a towel. Lie the gun and refill cartridge on top for half an hour.

A heat gun or a butane torch, rememger we beed a dry foot prior to applying.  Worried about the heat on a hoof???  Dont be alarmed..... remember hot shoeing is alot hotter than what this suggestion would do.

How about a hair dryer...both for drying hooves and warming Hoof Armour (an insulator on electric cords probably a good idea)?
